• Leaning Against Hyung-yul,
    Sahng-jeh-nim Chants the Tae-eul Mantra
  • When Ho-yun saw Sahng-jeh-nim catch the bolt of lightning and shout at the spirits, her spiritual eye opened. She saw a multitude of the commander spirits on horseback outside the gate and surrounding the house.
  • The spirits all bowed, and one of them reported, “We have come to escort You.”
  • “The time is not yet right!” Sahng-jeh-nim shouted at them. “Why did you come so soon?” With this, the commander spirits parted to both sides in formation and awaited further orders.
  • Hyung-yul signaled with his eyes for Ho-yun to go outside. She complained, “It’s raining so hard. What if I slip and fall?”
  • “Carry her to the other room,” Sahng-jeh-nim said to the disciples. A disciple carried her into the room and closed the door.
  • Alone in the room, Ho-yun could still see the commander spirits aligned on two sides. A few of the spirits gathered together.
  • “The time has not yet come,” one of them said and began to leave. All the others followed.
  • Cha Gyung-suk, Chey Sahng-moon, and two other disciples came into the room where Sahng-jeh-nim lay with His eyes closed, and they kneeled beside Him.
  • The spirits returned to the yard. Sahng-jeh-nim called out the name of a commander spirit, which Ho-yun could not make out. Sahng-jeh-nim asked, “Has the commander spirit come?”
  • 10 Since the commander spirit had not arrived, another commander spirit said, “No, and it is past one o’clock.”
Sahng-jeh-nim replied, “You fool, how would you know the time?”
  • 11 Then, He said to Hyung-yul, “Bring Me a bowl of honey water.” Sahng-jeh-nim sat up to drink the water, and leaning against Hyung-yul, He chanted the Tae-eul Mantra in a faint voice.
  • 12 Looking at Gyung-suk out of the corners of His eyes, Sahng-jeh-nim said, “Jung? Jung? You cannot even write and you are not intelligent. What do you mean by Jung?” Sahng-jeh-nim then lay back down.
