- Does Heaven Change?
- 1 The funeral procession was constantly delayed throughout the rest of the morning, and not until the afternoon did they resume carrying away the sacred remains.
- 2 Even then, they carried the bier around the village until sunset in hope of hearing Sahng-jeh-nim’s voice again. They would not consider putting it down.
- 3 At dusk, Sahng-jeh-nim stuck His head outside the bier and said, “Why are you carrying an empty bier?”
- 4 Surprised, they returned to Hyung-yul’s house. From the yard, they could see the coffin inside the guest room, broken into four pieces and strewn about.
- 5 Hyung-yul did not allow the other followers to approach the room as he went to the door with Ho-yun and asked, “Is it that You are saddened by leaving Your disciples behind?”
- 6 Hyung-yul sang lamentations and chanted. Afterward, he looked inside and saw the coffin intact and tied shut, ready to be carried.
- 7 Hyung-yul went in with Ho-yun and said, “We will do Your bidding. Do not be concerned with matters here; commence Your journey.
- 8 When we made a pledge, holding each other’s hand, You said, ‘Your mind is My mind and My mind is yours.’ Please think of Ho-yun.”
- 9 Sahng-jeh-nim said, “Does heaven change?”
