- Marriage, the Source of Ten Thousand Blessings
- 1 A disciple asked, “In the Later Heaven, people will make their own decisions about marriage rather than following what their parents insist they do, will they not?”
- 2 Sahng-jeh-nim replied, “The union of husband and wife is the foundation of humanity and the source of ten thousand blessings. Whether a family is founded on happiness or on misfortune greatly influences the world.
- 3 In the Early Heaven, following parents’ orders, people married without seeing their spouses’ faces, knowing nothing about their characters. This has led to all sorts of problems.
- 4 In the coming world, women will be able to choose their husbands.
- 5 If a man and woman decide to marry, they will first ask for their parents’ blessing. After the parents give their blessing, the couple will respectfully inform Me of their marriage.
- 6 They will become husband and wife only when they have pledged to love each other, expressed their wishes for their family in prayer, and vowed to honor and repay their parents for giving them life and raising them. A couple having done this will be loyal to each other all their lives.”
