• To Deceive the Mind Is to Deceive Heaven
  • On His way to Gu-rit-gohl Village, accompanied by Gahng Pahl-moon, Sahng-jeh-nim reached Nahk-su Village.
  • There, soldier spirits dressed in armor asked for wine and meat. Sahng-jeh-nim asked Pahl-moon, “Do you have three nyahng, seven jun, and five poon?”
“No,” Pahl-moon answered, though he had the money.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim knew the truth. “To deceive the mind is to deceive heaven.”
  • Sahng-jeh-nim obtained the money through some other means and, at an inn, bought drinks and food for the spirits. Afterward, He returned to Gu-rit-gohl Village.
  • The next day, Gahp-chil’s younger brother reported that Pahl-moon was found dead in a field.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim said, “This resulted from deceiving the mind. Do not deceive the mind.”
