• Relieving Jun Bohng-joon’s Grief
  • The next day, Sahng-jeh-nim left Nohng-ba-ooh Village and went to Ee Hwa-choon’s house in Pee-no Village. There, He had someone cook a yellow dog and bring a large jar of rice wine.
  • He also had someone cut down the tallest tree from the pine forest behind the house and bring it into the yard.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim then said, “Dig up some yellow earth south of here and bring it.” He dyed three sheets of white paper, making one blue, one red, and one yellow. He then attached the colored sheets of paper together by the ends and hung them from a branch near the top of the tree.
  • On each of another three sheets of paper, He wrote out the Shee-chun-ju Mantra. He then wrapped some yellow earth in each of those three sheets and strung them on the tree, which He then erected in front of the house. The tree looked like a flagstaff.
  • He then said to the disciples, “When Jun Bohng-joon was captured here, there was no flag signifying his command. Because of this, he has borne grief. By erecting this flag, I relieve him of his grief.
  • Dog soup is a food that common people eat, but practitioners of dao do not. This has been a cause of grief.
  • We eat gae-jahng to relieve this bitterness and grief and to undertake gae-jung.” He then shared the soup with the disciples.
