• Use the Tae-eul Mantra
  • Next, Sahng-jeh-nim placed a sword, a writing brush, an ink stick, and a fan on the rock and had disciples individually choose the item they liked the most.
  • Yu Chahn-myung chose the sword, Gim Hyung-yul the fan, Gim Ja-hyun the ink stick, and Hahn Gohng-sook the writing brush.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim then had each of the four disciples sit in a different corner of the medicine room. Standing in the center, Sahng-jeh-nim recited, “Two seven six, nine five one, four three eight.”
  • Then, He had three of the disciples cut paper in the shape of money and place it inside an inkstone case.
  • One of them picked up a piece, said, “Deng Yu,” which was the name of one of the Twenty-Eight Generals, and passed the paper to another disciple.
  • That person also said, “Deng Yu,” and passed the paper to another, who also repeated the name. Together, the three said, “The person in charge of China.”
  • The disciples repeated this process, but this time using the name “Ma Cheng” and ending with “The person in charge of Japan.”
  • Next, they used the name “Wu Han” and ended with “The person in charge of Korea.” They repeated this process, assigning each of the Twenty-Eight Generals and Twenty-Four Generals to different countries. In the end, there were no more pieces of paper in the case.
  • Tae-il went back to his village. A few days later, when he came to see Sahng-jeh-nim, he reported that the villagers no longer chanted the Tae-eul Mantra.
  • 10 It was when Sahng-jeh-nim was nearing His time of ascension that He said to the disciples, “Use the Tae-eul Mantra.
  • 11 If it is posted on your door, the soldier spirits will recognize your house as a house of dao and withdraw without attacking.”
