• A Work of Renewal with Aquatic Animals
  • One day, with Hyung-yul and Ho-yun, Sahng-jeh-nim went to a port in Tohng-yung, Gyung-sahng Province, where seawater and freshwater meet. There, He performed a work of renewal.
  • He wrote something on a turtle’s belly, and the turtle went into a cave.
  • A while later, another turtle emerged from the cave and said, “Did You call me?”
  • “Go and get them,” Sahng-jeh-nim ordered. The turtle went back into the cave and brought out some rabbits.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim said to the rabbits, “Did you bring it?” “Please spare my life,” one of the rabbits implored, rubbing his paws together in a pleading gesture.
  • Speaking again to the turtle, Sahng-jeh-nim said, “Go quickly and get the carp.” A while after the turtle had left, a carp arrived.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim scolded the carp. “What do you do besides gorge in a river? Show Me what you can do.”
  • He then ordered, “Bring Me a straw cutter.” He sat by the river where it flowed into the sea, wielding the straw cutter.
  • Throngs of aquatic animals, such as carp, sharks, and seals, came out of the water, upright like humans, and stood in lines in front of Sahng-jeh-nim.
  • 10 In a loud voice, Sahng-jeh-nim said to them, “Will you die or will you bring Me something from the Dragon Castle?”
  • 11 He continued, “When the time comes, you will gather yourselves as stepping stones to form a bridge and pile yourselves high to form a fortress wall.”
  • 12 “Yes, we will,” they said together, then jumped back into the water.
