• A Punishment from the Spirit Overseeing the Kitchen
  • One day, Sahng-jeh-nim went to Sohn Byung-ook’s house in Wa-ryohng Village. Many disciples gathered there.
  • Byung-ook had his wife prepare lunch for everyone. Because it was such a hot day, she complained bitterly to herself about the hard work.
  • Suddenly, her face contorted with her eyes and mouth twisting to one side. Witnessing this, Hwahng Eung-johng was alarmed. When he told Sahng-jeh-nim about it,
  • Sahng-jeh-nim explained, “The spirit overseeing the kitchen punished her for complaining.”
  • He wrote something on a piece of paper, then had Byung-ook’s wife burn it in the kitchen and sincerely apologize. She soon recovered.
