• Providing for a Poor Blind Man
  • A young blind man used to sit by the roadside on Yohng-muh-ree Hill, playing a bamboo flute for money.
  • One day, Sahng-jeh-nim was passing along the road. Feeling compassion, He stopped and observed the blind man for a long time. Then, He asked, “Can I take some of your money to buy Myself rice wine?”
  • The blind man replied, “Please, buy as much wine as You like.”
  • Sahng-jeh-nim laughed and took a coin. He bought a bowl of rice wine and, after drinking, said, “Poor man. I will provide him with a comfortable life.”
  • Shortly after, Sahng-jeh-nim visited a wealthy widow’s house near the South Gate of Jeonju.
  • The widow was deeply distressed because her two sons had been ill for several days. Though many renowned doctors had come, they were of no help.
  • Sahng-jeh-nim simply wrote “demons leave” on a piece of paper and burned it in the yard. The children recovered right away.
  • The widow was truly amazed and wanted to show her gratitude, but Sahng-jeh-nim would not accept any gifts or hospitality. Before He left, He recommended that she marry the blind man.
  • Since she had gained faith in Sahng-jeh-nim’s divine power, she did not hesitate to send a sedan chair for the blind man.
  • 10 Sahng-jeh-nim returned to Yohng-muh-ree Hill and chanted a mantra. The man regained his sight and rode the sedan chair to Jeonju, overcome with joy.
