- Suffering Cold and Hunger on All People’s Behalf
- 1 When Sahng-jeh-nim saw a single grain of rice on the ground, He would pick it up.
- 2 “In the future, cries for food will pierce the nine heavens. How could I carelessly pass this by? Heaven is aware of even a single grain of rice.”
- 3 A disciple once asked, “You have often fasted for days and have endured many winters wearing only one layer of clothes. Why do You do this?”
- 4 Sahng-jeh-nim answered, “In the future, when great disasters take place, countless people will die of cold and hunger. It is impossible to avoid the fate of gae-byuk.
- 5 However, if for one day, I shiver in the cold or go without eating, a great number of people will be saved. I do this to reduce the number of people to be sacrificed.”
