• Ten More Years of Suffering
  • One day in 1907, Yu Il-tae of Ga-jun Village, Gim-jeh County, developed a toothache.
  • Following the advice of a doctor, he dug up a human skull from an old grave mound, burned it, and then applied the ash to the aching tooth. But it had no effect, and he continued to suffer for years.
  • In the spring of 1913, he became a disciple of Tae-mo-nim and began chanting mantras earnestly. His toothache soon disappeared, only to return two months later. He went to Tae-mo-nim in Dae-heung Village and pleaded with Her to cure his tooth.
  • She said, “Since you have desecrated someone’s remains, you will suffer ten years more.”
  • Believing in Tae-mo-nim, Il-tae returned home and waited ten years. But even after a decade had passed, the pain did not cease.
  • In the winter of 1922, he visited Her and again pleaded for relief from the pain.
  • She gave him a bowl of strong liquor and five beef ribs. When he ate and drank everything as instructed, his toothache disappeared.
