• Mind, the Source of All Affairs Under Heaven
  • One day in 1923, when Tae-mo-nim was staying in Jo-johng Village, She said to Gahng Sa-sung,
  • “Write the character mind (心).”
  • Then, She said, “This character is the source of all affairs under heaven.” She continued, “All of you, deeply contemplate the shape of this character and then tell Me about it.” No one could respond.
  • Tae-mo-nim explained, “The bottom stroke represents the shape of the earth and the three dots on the top represent Buddhism, Immortalism, and Confucianism.
  • Wealth and distinction, life and death―all depend upon this character: mind.”
  • On another occasion, Tae-mo-nim summoned Baek Yohng-ghee, who was a Confucian scholar,
  • and said to him, “Write the character mind.”
  • After he had written it, She said, “Everyone knows this is the character mind. Tell Me why it is shaped like that.”
  • “I do not know,” Yohng-ghee replied.
  • 10 Tae-mo-nim criticized him. “And yet you consider yourself a scholar and look down on others.”
