- A Guide to Becoming a Leader
- 1 Arriving in Haeng-dahn Village of Tae-in County, Sahng-jeh-nim said to Cha Gyung-suk,
- 2 “Just as Confucius taught in a place called Apricot Altar, I will share a verse with you here.” He then recited:
- 夫主將之法 務攬英雄之心
賞祿有功 通志于衆
- 3 To be a leader:
- 4 strive to win over the minds of heroes;
- 5 reward and bless those who have merit;
- 6 have one will with those around you.
- 故 與衆同好靡不成 與衆同惡靡不傾
- 7 If you imbue people with a common desire for something,
it will certainly be achieved.
- 8 If you imbue people with a common disdain for something,
it will certainly be cast down.
- 治國安家得人也 亡國破家失人也
含氣之類 咸願得其志
- 9 Governing a nation and having a peaceful home
depend on whether the people join you.
- 10 The downfall of a nation or a household
depends on whether the people leave you.
- 11 All living beings desire to achieve that aspiration.
- 12 Sahng-jeh-nim then said, “This is a great guide to becoming a leader.”
